Convex saucer keeps the cup dry.
A concave seat on the bottom of this cup would rest on a matching convex portion of the saucer, thus holding the cup in place. And if any coffee slopped out of the cup, it would stay in the outer valley of the saucer, leaving the cup high, dry, and drip-free, and your clothing stainless.
